HELP!

Does anybody out there use SHURLEY ENGLISH??

This is my first year teaching, and my first year teaching Shurley English. I'm not so sure I like it! I am not very good at English in the first place, never have been. I never really had proper English in grade school, high school, or college! I think I am a pretty good writer but I know NOTHING about parts of speech, or classifying a sentence! I'm pretty sure my students know more than I do at this point. And that's sad!

So HELP me, please! I'm begging you! give me the secrets to Shurley English. To me it is so confusing!

Mollusk Menus....and 6th grade stories!

So far in Science we have been learning about animals. Our chapter that we are one right now is all about invertebrates. We have been discussing different mollusks. I took them to the computer lab the other day and had them research what countries eat mollusks (snails, crab, squids, etc.). They were then to find recipes where the mollusk was the main ingredient. From that they made some menus. They had to come up with a name for their restaurant, include one appetizer, and one main dish. Here are some of the menus!

Love these kids! They are so funny and creative!

So funny story today...

I had one of my boys come up to me and say:

"Guess what? Last night I woke up around 6am with a ringing in my ear. So I went to my mom and she game me some medicine to put in my ear, then I had to lay on it. After I laid down for a little while a ROLLY POLLY fell out of my ear!"

How hilarious is that! Never heard of that happening!

Have a great evening!

I have noticed that my kids get really restless after lunch/recess time. Once coming in from recess we have Facebook Time (aka silent reading time) to settle them down.

Do you have any other suggestions on how to keep them motivated after lunch?

                                Have an amazing day!

Currently September...Really?!

Wow, I can't believe that it is September already! August just flew by!

I am grateful that this weekend was a 3 day weekend! I did stay busy but got caught up on a lot of lesson plans! Here's what my weekend looked like:

Friday night: Rehearsal dinner for my good friend
The bride with the bridesmaids

Saturday: Her Wedding! (it was absolutely gorgeous!)

Here is a picture of me and the bride

Sunday:
Church, and clean the WHOLE house (it was much needed)
Monday: Work on lesson plan...ALL DAY...then have have small group

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And now for September's currently! To get your currently go to Farley's page, Oh' Boy 4th Grade!

My favorites:
1. The internet. I have no idea how teachers made lesson plans without the internet before! I mean seriously!
2. I am in love with Phillip Phillips song "Home"...I knew he won American Idol but I never watched any of the episodes...now I am sad that I missed them!
3. I have two gorgeous 31 bags that I tote all of my school stuff in back and forth from school to home! I don't know what I would do with out those!

Happy Labor Day!

Classroom Rules

Well, I have survived my 1st week of being a 6th grade teacher. I have to say, I actually like it! I never in a million years thought I would like 6th grade! I always thought I would be teaching the younger graders. But surprisingly enough, I love 6th grade! Before I started I was told that this was the class from you know where. But to tell you the truth they really have been bad for me. Maybe its only just begun though, we shall see!

Anyway, this past week we made up our classroom rules together. On a piece of chart paper we wrote down about 10 good rules that we thought our class should follow. These are the top 5 that I picked. If you get more than 5 then the students will become overwhelmed by rules. After I wrote them, I then had them "pledge" that they would follow the rules by signing their name.

Here is how it turned out!

Have a great day!
